Pathway #2: Switching to a High-Demand Career
With Unmudl, you can pivot into fast-growing industries like semiconductor manufacturing, renewable energy, or robotics.
These courses are built by employers themselves, which means many programs lead directly to interviews with or put you on track for jobs with national companies.
These are practical steps that give you the freedom to choose the career you really want. Let’s see how stackable credentials create a pathway for you.
Step 1: Warehouse to Maintenance Technician
Start at an Amazon warehouse earning $19.72 per hour (about $41,000 per year).
Complete the Introduction to Mechatronics course on Unmudl, which has no barriers to entry. It’ll prepare you for Maintenance Technician Apprentice roles.
According to Glassdoor, the average salary for a Maintenance Technician Apprentice is $28 per hour (about $58,000 per year).
Your first raise is roughly $17,000 per year.
Step 2: Maintenance Technician to Controls Technician
Take a course like Mechatronics and Robotics Maintenance, developed with Amazon and Central New Mexico Community College. The skills you learn in this course are designed to suit the requirements of current industry needs.
Employers such as CBRE, Intel, and JLL are all looking to hire out of this course.
Add a controls-focused credential, such as Principles of Control Systems. As a course endorsed by the ARM Institute, a Department of Defense–sponsored leader in robotics, its credentials carry weight.
Now, you can apply for Control Systems Technician positions, eventually working your way towards becoming a Control Systems Lead.
According to Glassdoor, Control Systems Technicians at Amazon earn an average of $37 per hour. The top 25% make over $44 per hour.
Nationwide, Instrumentation and Controls Technicians earn an average of $44 per hour. Top earners make over $56 per hour (more than $116,000 per year).
Your second raise nets you another $20,000 to $40,000 per year.
Add it up, from warehouse to advanced controls, and the cumulative pay raise is up to 150% or more.
Beyond the Pay Raise
Switching careers means shifting from routine labor to highly skilled technical work. It often means leaving behind overnight shifts and physical strain.
But, perhaps more importantly, it means entering something new and exciting.
Not just for you, but for our collective futures. Your work supports the semiconductor plants, data centers, and renewable energy facilities that are powering tomorrow’s technology.
Pathway #3: Starting Fresh with No Experience
You don't need a technical background to succeed with Unmudl. Many learners come from retail, food service, or gig work with no prior experience.
The Opportunity
Courses like Introduction to Mechatronics assume you're starting from zero.
Without having to do degrees or gain years of experience, you’ll learn how to read electrical schematics, understand mechanical principles, use hand tools safely, and more.
Upskilling in Action: From IT to Robotics Technician
Michael V. had an IT background but no hands-on maintenance experience. He started in a Flex role at Amazon, completely unrelated to the technical side of the company.
He then upskilled through Unmudl's Mechatronics and Equipment Maintenance courses.
Today, he's a full-time Robotics Technician at Amazon.
"Before Unmudl, I had an IT background but no hands-on maintenance experience," Michael said. "The program gave me the skills and confidence to become a Robotics Technician."
Entry-Level to Apprenticeship Pathway
You're earning $15 per hour in a retail job. You take Foundations of Automated Equipment Maintenance, a 5-week course with no prerequisites.
You’re now ready for a Maintenance Technician Apprentice role, which, according to Glassdoor, has a median base pay of about $22 per hour in your first year
That's an immediate pay increase of $7 per hour, or roughly $14,560 per year.
You think about whether you want to work more with maintenance or controls. Either way, there’s an Unmudl course to support you.
You land on robotics. From there, you take the Mechatronics and Robotics Maintenance course. You complete it in approximately 10 weeks, and you’re now eligible for a robotics technician role at Amazon that hires straight from Unmudl.
The base pay is up to $79,300/year, depending on the geographic market. Let’s assume the median pay, which Glassdoor estimates is $64,000 in your first year.
Your initial raise was an extra $15,000 per year. You added another credential, and you’re now looking at a further potential 40% to 60% increase in pay.
Beyond the Pay Raise
Learning new skills and moving up to new positions isn’t just about your career. It’s also about your belief in yourself.
Fareed M., who completed Unmudl's Mechatronics courses, said: "Unmudl has inspired me to upgrade my skillset and reach for something that the old me would've believed to be unattainable."
After finishing his training, Fareed secured a job at JLL and is now moving to a position at Cushman & Wakefield.
That’s the kind of confidence-building that you simply can’t get from moving into the same position at another company, no matter how high the pay bump.
If you were in retail or gig jobs, now you have stable work, health insurance, and retirement contributions. And the best part is that these new skills are helping build a lifelong career without college debt.
There’s nothing to hold you back from a better life.
